Communications technology is an essential part of policing and allows officers on duty to communicate directly with the control room, and access crucial databases and information. The devices that are used are constantly changing along with improvements in technology. Rattles and then whistles were the first communications devices. They were especially useful in the dark, enabling police officers to draw each others’ attention.
