06. Houndsditch Murders – Officers Murdered

The public were outraged when they heard about the deaths of the police officers involved in the Houndsditch Murders. Condolences and money poured in to the City Police for the families of the victims. Even George V sent a message of sympathy to the widows. The funeral of the police officers was attended by Winston Churchill, then the Home Secretary, and held in St Pauls Cathedral, which was unprecedented for police of their rank. Hundreds of thousands of members of the public lined the streets.
