35 Liturgical play set

Do you think this next piece looks like a puppet theatre? Well you’re right. It opens up to become a church interior, complete with miniature liturgical furniture and figures. By using different configurations of its various figures and attributes, the seven sacraments can be ‘acted out’: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Penance and Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders and Matrimony. This toy set was not just an accessible way of illustrating the course of the Mass, the various liturgical customs and the Seven Sacraments, it was also a toy devout parents were only too happy to see their children playing with. They could also buy them miniature altars, complete with all the furnishings. Such play sets were designed to help future altar boys to learn the tricks of the trade.

PARCUM

In our museum you will find thematic exhibitions at the confluence of religion, art and culture. Exhibitions that bring you face to face with the often unseen heritage of our churches, abbeys and monasteries. In today's multi-religious and highly diverse society, particular attention is paid here to promoting dialogue. Our exhibitions do not provide answers; they encourage thinking and dialogue. PARCUM is much more than a museum. It is also a visit to one of the best preserved abbey complexes in the Benelux.
