19 Child Jesus

The mystical love of Christ was not only a love of adult Jesus but also of Child Jesus. To facilitate spiritual contact with Child Jesus, wooden Jesus dolls were made from the 14th century onwards. Nuns and monks often kept them in their cells. Nuns in particular used to cherish them, dressing them, caressing them and treating them with the greatest care. In some cases, such as this one, their clothing has been preserved. This doll is dressed in a small loincloth and is very finely detailed. With his blushing cheeks, plump knees and hair cascading down in curls, he is almost like a playful little boy.

PARCUM

In our museum you will find thematic exhibitions at the confluence of religion, art and culture. Exhibitions that bring you face to face with the often unseen heritage of our churches, abbeys and monasteries. In today's multi-religious and highly diverse society, particular attention is paid here to promoting dialogue. Our exhibitions do not provide answers; they encourage thinking and dialogue. PARCUM is much more than a museum. It is also a visit to one of the best preserved abbey complexes in the Benelux.
