13 Relic image of Saint Clara

A little farther you’ll find one of the strangest and most intriguing items in the PARCUM collection: a dismantled statue of Saint Clare. It consists of a torso in textile and plaster, a head, hands and feet in wax, and a cylindrical reliquary, containing a relic intended to be inserted into the torso. The inscription inside the reliquary states: ‘Ex os Stae Clara v(irgo) et m(artyr)’. It is not clear to which Saint Clare it refers. Further investigation is urgently required. The statue comes from the Grey Sisters of Antwerp collection. As a reliquary statue, it was most probably dressed, adorned and laid in a glass coffin.
