05. Hallway

Hallway When faced with the colour scheme of the staircase, architect De Boer found himself thoroughly perplexed. He couldn't make sense of the floor plan which Van Doesburg had sent him. When asked for further explanation, Van Doesburg sent a number of variants with different colour applications, which only added to the confusion and made the reconstruction even more confusing. Take a good look at the blue area on the wall and see how it defines the space. It shows that there is a consistency to the use of the colours which Van Doesburg put together in a new combination for each room, with the underlying principle being the creation of balance between the red, blue and yellow. The shades of white, black and grey play their role as neutralisers between the primary colours. Now walk up the stairs and see what appears under your feet! Turn left on the landing and choose the left back room as the first room to visit.

Museum Dr8888

Museum Dr8888 is a museum for modern and contemporary art in Drachten, province Friesland. On the basis of a unique collection of works, the museum tells stories that should not be forgotten. In particular, how the international avant-garde came to Drachten in the early twentieth century through Theo van Doesburg and the Rinsema brothers. With a large collection of works from, among others, the art movements Dada and De Stijl, but also expressionism and offshoots of the Hague School, the museum focuses mainly on the time period between the two world wars: the interbellum.
