57. Kaiserpanorama

This is the “Kaiserpanorama”. It’s my Masterpiece. My aim was to let people experience the most interesting places on earth. For a low fee they should be able to travel the globe. My invention made that possible. How? It allows 25 people to experience stereoscopic vision simultaneously. The panorama presents different perspectives of two-dimensional images for the right and the left eye. The images change automatically in regular intervals. My name is August Fuhrmann. I'm a physicist and thanks to my invention a successful businessman. I improved the stereoscopic technique and used coloured images. They now seem more true-to-life and three dimensional. I sell many of these Panoramas because people love to see exotic countries and cities. The rich enjoy it as much as the poor, even ‘the Kaiser’ praised my invention. It is my contribution to the national education. Every week there is a new set of images. The screenings last half an hour. That's how long it takes to rotate. You’re welcome to take a seat! Experience the magic of the Imperial Panorama with a set of images from Berlin.

Märkisches Museum

Due to the current circumstances we invite you to take a digital tour through the permanent exhibition BerlinZEIT. The Stadtmuseum Berlin presents at Märkisches Museum a host of artefacts related to the culture and history of the city. A strong level of civic engagement had already led to the foundation of the Museum in 1874. From 1899 to 1908 architect Ludwig Hoffmann designed this first city museum in the world.
