Professional beauty care for head and hair: That is my vocation! My name is Francois Haby, I am the personal barber of William the Second. My salon is a hub for Berlins High Society. I satisfy the needs of my demanding customers. Because good looks matter! Originally, I’m from a Huguenot family from Königsberg. Now I’m a successful hairdresser in Berlin. Because I’m good at advertising my products: try my shaving soap that’s called "Wake up" or my women’s shampoo called "I can be so nice". But my bestseller is the beard pomade. In addition to the hair iron, this hair grease provides support for your beard. And a moustache-trainer keeps it in shape overnight. For many men the Kaiser’s beard is an inspiration. And I, as his personal barber, created that style. Berliners come to my salon looking for gossip from the Court. A customer may feel like a king on one of my comfortable chairs. But I’m tough on my staff: many have to work 54 hours a week. Some complained to the Barber's Association about their low wages. I immediately terminated their contracts.
Due to the current circumstances we invite you to take a digital tour through the permanent exhibition BerlinZEIT. The Stadtmuseum Berlin presents at Märkisches Museum a host of artefacts related to the culture and history of the city. A strong level of civic engagement had already led to the foundation of the Museum in 1874. From 1899 to 1908 architect Ludwig Hoffmann designed this first city museum in the world.
