I’ve never seen it, but I'm supposed to cook it. You call that a turnip? The turnips I know are white, not orange. I tell you, it's exhausting to be a maid. I work for the Dutch. But there is so much I don’t understand: the language, the different clothes...! And the food! These new Berliners are a bit strange. They were invited by the Elector and his wife. And it’s not just the Dutch. There are the refugees from France and Jews from Vienna looking for freedom of religion. Here they are free to believe what they want. And they bring strange stuff: pointy white rods called Asparagus, little green balls called peas and orange turnips! And I’m supposed to cook it. But I must admit, it’s not too bad. I’ve tried that orange thing, this carrot. So, I think me and the new Berliners will get along just fine.
Due to the current circumstances we invite you to take a digital tour through the permanent exhibition BerlinZEIT. The Stadtmuseum Berlin presents at Märkisches Museum a host of artefacts related to the culture and history of the city. A strong level of civic engagement had already led to the foundation of the Museum in 1874. From 1899 to 1908 architect Ludwig Hoffmann designed this first city museum in the world.
