06. Berlin Perch

Real Berliners are tough, right? This perch here is one of them. That fish is a survivor! That’s why it still lives in the river Spree. It’s a pretty dirty environment that many species couldn’t cope with anymore. But this guy couldn’t care less. So, he became one of the most common here. All he basically needs is enough oxygen. As a predator he eats smaller fish, sometimes even a fellow of his own species. Well, I am a though place, right? But I actually do have a lot to offer: I'm a green city with very beautiful parks, meadows and forests. Nature thrives. Experts estimate that around 30,000 species live here: you might even see foxes at the Chancellor’s Office and raccoons in the city centre. But I must admit: I'm not a very clean city, particularly my rivers and lakes pose a challenge.

Märkisches Museum

Due to the current circumstances we invite you to take a digital tour through the permanent exhibition BerlinZEIT. The Stadtmuseum Berlin presents at Märkisches Museum a host of artefacts related to the culture and history of the city. A strong level of civic engagement had already led to the foundation of the Museum in 1874. From 1899 to 1908 architect Ludwig Hoffmann designed this first city museum in the world.
