A ZOO FOR TREES Sarah This is the ‘Tree Hunt’ family action quest. We hope you will join us on a tree hunting expedition around the world. This activity would be enjoyed by children of all ages. Alex My personal hero is Mervyn Wingfield - the 7th Lord Powerscourt. He was 21 when he began finishing his father’s dream to make this garden paradise. Anthony At that time plant hunters were searching the world. They were discovering all sorts of weird and wonderful trees and shrubs. Sarah World travel was very difficult, dangerous, and expensive, then. Alex Mervyn made Powerscourt into a kind of zoo for amazing trees and shrubs. Thanks to him we can explore the whole world just by wandering around these woods. You can find trees from all over Europe, Asia, Africa, America and Australia. Sarah So why don’t we go on a tree hunting expedition of our own. AUSTRALIA Anthony Let’s travel as far away as possible. Alex We have Australian trees here. Australian trees often shed their bark and not their leaves. So their trunks look like they are peeling. And we have one tree planted by a famous Australian. Sarah Let’s find that one first. Press PLAY to continue the expedition after we find the Australian tree.
