Alex Welcome to the Rose Garden stop. Here we tell you about the roses, and other seasonal highlights. Anthony Our grandmother Gwen loved roses. She created this spectacular Rose Garden in 1976. Alex There are over dozens of heritage roses here now.Sarah These two glasshouses were built in the 19th century. They were fully restored in 2015.SEASONAL TREATS Anthony So Alex what can we expect to see at Powerscourt as the seasons change? Alex Our garden changes daily. The Tulip Festival draws thousands of visitors each spring where they can see over 10,000 tulips in bloom. Sarah What about summer?AlexThe herbaceous border comes to life with over 700 varieties of plants while hundreds of roses of every colour amaze our visitors. We also have Dahlias from the President of Ireland’s grower. Anthony And in autumn and winter? Alex The colours of our trees in autumn could easily rival New England in the U.S.A. Winter is the best time to see our statues against the stark landscape of evergreen trees. GILDED GATES Anthony At the far end of the glasshouses is the Bamberg Gate. Through it you can see the Araucaria Walk with its Monkey Puzzle trees. It came from Bamberg in Germany.Sarah I love the trick perspective of its ironwork. Anthony This beautiful gilded iron gate has been restored. It looks the best I have seen it during my lifetime.
