Look around you and admire the refined architectural details. By looking upward, for instance, 20 meters above you, you see the Gothic celestial vault. The spiral staircase in the corner was done in Renaissance style. This staircase leads to the tower, which you can visit if you purchased a ticket. Did you notice the small winged dragon at the lower end of the stairs? You may also notice the commemorative plaques on this landing. They immortalize the people who donated money for the new carillon. Partly owing to the American carilloneur Margo Halsted, the carillon was substantially renovated in 1983, as well as expanded from 48 to 63 bells. In this way the Leuven carillon became one of the largest in Europe. You can book your Tower Visit with Carillon concert online or at the reception desk. Press button B to listen to an excerpt of the carillon concert.
