HB 01 Welcome

Welcome to Huis Bergh. This audio tour takes you on a trip through the castle. It will tell you about the various rooms, the art collection and the castle itself. The history of the castle dates back to the early Middle Ages and it has been the home of a number of influential families. The castle was built on this location as early as the 13th century. It was the ancestral home of the Van den Bergh lords and counts. In the 18th century the castle passed into the hands of the aristocratic German Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen dynasty. In 1912 the castle and its possessions were acquired by textile industrialist Jan Herman van Heek from the then Dutch textile capital Enschede. He made it the home of a unique collection of mediaeval art. He set up a trust, which is still responsible for the day to day running of the castle, its grounds and its art collection. These days, the castle is a much loved venue for weddings, private and corporate events. In the two towers we offer luxury Bed and Breakfast accommodation. The grounds and gardens are among the oldest of the Netherlands. Will you join us on our tour of the castle?

For centuries, Huis Bergh Castle was the ancestral castle of the powerful Van den Burgh counts. The castle's building history dates back to the 12th century. Jan Herman van Heek, an industrialist from Enschede, purchased the castle in 1912. He amassed a collection of late medieval artworks that are on display in the castle even today. There is also the possibility to have your (wedding)party here or stay the night in one of the luxury suits in a former defense tower.
