16. Isaac Israels - Mata Hari, 1916

During his career Isaac Israels painted ten times as many women as men, at first mainly factory workers and domestic servants and later mainly elegantly dressed, fashionable ladies. This portrait of Mata Hari belongs with this latter category. He made the painting in 1916, when the famous femme fatale lived temporarily in The Hague.
