Throughout the novel we have learnt a lot about Molly Bloom from her husband’s thoughts and the comments of others, but Joyce devotes the whole of the final episode to Molly’s thoughts as she tries to go to sleep. One of the finest examples of Joyce’s use of ‘stream of consciousness,’ it is written in eight long sentences with hardly any punctuation. “…and then he asked me would I yes to say yes my mountain flower and first I put my arms around him yes and drew him down to me so he could feel my breasts all perfume yes and his heart was going like mad and yes I said yes I will Yes.”
