Constable Walter Charles Choat was over 6 feet tall, fair-haired and blue eyed. He was in the City of London Police for 13 years, having joined aged 20, and had recently returned from his family home in Horsham, West Sussex, following the death and funeral of his mother. He was unmarried but did provide some support to his younger sister Sylvia, who was in bad health. She was awarded a pension of 5 shillings a week after his death. He was laid to rest in Byfleet, close to his family.
