Puck, whose proper name was Magdalena, was born on July 5, 1913. When she came here to Jongkindstraat to live in 1933, she'd completed her education. She'd gone to a girls' school in Rotterdam, and then instead of going to the Conservatoire as many people had suggested, she trained as a secretary and went to work at the Nederlandse Handelsmaatschappij, or Netherlands Trading Company. In the summer of 1935, Puck went to America for a year. She stayed with acquaintances of her father, the family of Max Miller in Paducah, Kentucky, and the Kennedy family, which supplied tobacco to the Van Nelle factory. Dozens of events were organised in her honour: lunches, tea, picnics, dinner parties. A lot of these were large-scale affairs; for example, shortly after she arrived, 175 guests assembled on the roof terrace of the Ritz hotel for a lunch in honour of this "attractive brunette" from Rotterdam. Puck kept an album of American newspaper cuttings from this time, describing the parties complete with guest lists and details of her outfit. After her return from America, Puck married Guus Janssens. They had two daughters, Bernadette and Mary. Puck's husband died in 1956, and she died on March 24, 1999.
