Maintenance work in the 1970s revealed cracks in the chapel walls. Further investigation showed that the beams were severely damaged by beetles and fungi. Complete restoration was decided upon, based on the idea of bringing everything back to the original situation as much as possible. Simplicity and austerity rather than the baroque splendour displayed in neighbouring Roman Catholic countries. The ceiling, representing the sky, is the only richly decorated element in the chapel. These days, the chapel is an enchanting place for civil weddings. These take place here under the watchful eye of God the Father, whose statue presides over the entrance.
