Vincent van Gogh is Helene Kröller-Müller’s favourite artist. To her, he is among the ‘great spirits of modern art’. She considers him to be the originator of ‘modern expressionism’ because of his ‘powerful personality’ and distinctive style. Helene gives him a prominent place in her collection. In addition to 91 paintings she also acquires 200 works on paper.
