‘Leaving the Factory’ shows a group of factory workers leaving their work place. In the upper section of ‘Composition 1917 no. 4’, the factory is still recognisable and with a little imagination we can make out the workers in the blocks and lines in the lower part. Some of the red blocks have discoloured over the years and now have brown patches. The passage of time has added a mixed colour to this work. But this was not Bart van der Leck’s intention.
