The Forty Foot bathing place at Sandycove, where Buck Mulligan goes for a dip at the end of the first episode of Ulysses. Lee Miller wrote: “There is a nice cove with cottages and boats and is a good summer resort on the lines of Provincetown, Rhode Island without being full of painters.” She describes the Forty Foot as “a break water known as FARTING something like foot... the waves dash against the breakwater and sizzle and spout out of the hole.”
