Davy Byrne’s pub on Duke Street is most famed for its mention in the eighth episode of Ulysses, where Bloom orders a gorgonzola sandwich with a glass of Burgundy to wash it down. Davy Byrne’s also features in ‘Counterparts’ in Dubliners. By the time Miller had come to take this picture in 1946 the pub had changed entirely from its form in 1904. Davy Byrne’s is still a congregation point for Bloomsday revellers each year and serves Bloom’s favourite sandwich and tipple in his honour.
