ardwicke Street was another home of the Joyces, and they lived at number 29 during the winter of 1893. Image number 6 depicts the house in question and is notable because prior to the unearthing of this photo, no image of this building was thought to exist. It was eventually demolished in 1954. Hardwicke Street is also the setting for ‘The Boarding House’ in Dubliners and the street is also referenced in A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. Image number 3 depicts St. George’s Church on nearby Hardwicke Place which features in 3 different episodes of Ulysses. Lee Miller wrote in her notes: “Incidentally, although this area is pretty run down St George’s has become again the smart place for weddings.”
