Peter Clarke Sept 6, 45.25 The first world war, from what I have read, the hardest thing was being , actually staying a police officer, because there was a lot of pressure, and not just from the public, but the commissioner also expected police officers to join up and go to war. And his comments were, “After the war, how do you expect to face those people who had been to war when you have stayed here?”…. 47.16 then of course there was bombing during the first world war, but obviously nothing like the scale it was in the second world war. I suppose there is dealing with that, dealing with the aftermath of bombing, would have been quite difficult, then the following day, dealing with people who died during the bombing, I don’t think it was easy.
