Welcome to Merton Heritage and Local Studies Centre. The Centre tells the story of Merton and its people through a changing programme of exhibitions and events. We have a large collection of books, maps, photographs and historic newspapers covering the history of Merton from prehistoric times to the present day, plus a wide range of records to help you trace your family tree.

Before we start the tour, here is some important information… In the event of a fire, a continuous alarm will sound. Heritage staff will direct all visitors to the main fire exit. To reach this, turn left from the lift and the fourth door on the left is the pushbar fire exit. Take the stairs down to the ground floor – here there is a door out on to the street – from there turn right and wait at a safe distance from the building. Library staff will tell you when it is safe to return.

How to use this audioguide: To start the guide, point the player at one of our Heritage id points – this is a small square block, topped with our project logo. ( There are 12 id points placed around our exhibition. ) The commentary will start automatically. The audioguide player has 3 buttons on the top of the device – press the left button to turn down the volume, or the right button to increase it. Use the central button to pause, or restart the commentary. If you are asked to select between different pieces of commentary, the player buttons function from left to right as options A, B and C
